Caring For An Old Canine

Caring for an older dog is way different from caring for a younger dog. The major reason behind this is associated with the older dogs’ health, as they are more prone to catching diseases or get injured. Because of this, as your dog ages, you should give him more love and attention. It is very hard for dog owners to see their dog suffer because of any pain brought about by old age. This is why we should do everything we can to give them to maximum level of attention and convenience we can give. Here are some tips that you should consider when you own a senior dog:

Is your dog getting enough physical activities?

Physical activities are important to dogs as they are to humans. Without these, dog’s body and health will continually regress. Aside from the fact that physical exercises like walking will make a dog’s body healthier, such activities are one of the few things that make a dog’s life enjoyable. Try placing yourself in a canine’s feet, apart from strolling, what else can you do to enjoy? Nearly none right? So give your canine sufficient exercise, for his health and for his leisure.

Does your canine show signs of arthritis?

Arthritis is a common reason why dogs in their senior years suffer in pain. Because of this condition, a dog will no longer be able to enjoy his usual activities. Simple movements like getting up and walking can be too painful for a dog to handle. If you see that your pet’s usual routine seems very hard for him to follow, or you see him become lethargic and weak, then he might be attacked by arthritis. In such case, proceed to a vet. Always keep in mind that every pet owner’s best friend is always the veterinarian. With the expertise of a vet, you will be able to know what drugs to give your dog. Common arthritis medicines for dogs would be Etodolac 400 mg tablet, Rimadyl, and many more. Do not just give them any medicine you find on the net. A vet’s prescription is an important thing to give your dog safe medicines. Arthritis is one painful health condition for dogs. So to avoid difficulty in healing this condition, deal with it as soon as possible.

Is your canine getting sufficient attention and affection?

If you own numerous dogs, old and young, always deal with them all equally. Canines can be sensitive and when they get lesser attention, they feel bad. When dogs feel bad, their health could get affected. If they lack love and attention they might result to having bad behaviors just to pick up your attention. They might as well lose their appetite in eating, therefore resulting to very poor health and lifestyle. So give your canine sufficient love and attention. For your younger canine, reading Secrets to dog training review can help. But with your senior canine, mere caring and constant attention will be enough.

Having a senior canine is a challenge. In dogs’ senior years, more meds and various maintenance will come as well. This is the time that you say hello to numerous things like home remedy medicines such as aspirin for dogs and a lot more vet checkups due to numerous random things such as arthritis. But as a whole, attention and love will turn out to be the basis of your canine’s much healthier and longer existence.

Train Your Dog with 12 Basic Commands

Every dog owner needs to have the basic dog training methods memorized. After all, knowing them can help you to train your canine friend when you need them to know them the most.

The 12 basic commands in dog training are:

  1. Come

  2. Down

  3. Drop It

  4. Heel

  5. Leave It

  6. No

  7. Off

  8. Okay

  9. Sit

  10. Stay

  11. Stand

  12. Wait

And, it’s important that they are taught to your dog first, as teaching the difficult commands will be easier for the canine to learn later on.

Three Helpful Tips To Successful Dog Training

1. You Should Give Your Dog Consistent Commands

It’s important to be consistent when you give your dog a basic command to follow for two reasons: to reinforce their good behavior and to keep their attention.

2. Give Your Dog Some Praise/Rewards

If you want to reinforce your dog’s positive behavior when he/she follows your commands, you’ll need to give him/her rewards and praises. This helps counteract all the scolding and corrections you’re doing, and helps keep your dog’s disposition upbeat. That is, they’ll feel loved, and feel better for it. If you don’t reward or praise them at the right time, you could hinder the goal you are after.

3. Keep Training Lessons Short

When you’re training your dog the basic commands, make sure to keep the lessons short and intense. The idea is not to lose your dog’s attention when you’re training them. No more than 10 minutes of intense training will be sufficient enough for your dog to get what you’re trying to teach him/her.

Training a dog is hard at first, but after a few months of hardcore training, and you’ll have a best friend for life…who obeys and loves you.

Information About English Pointer Training

Almost everyone who owns a dog would love for their pet to be well-trained, and people who own English Pointers aren’t any different. Here is some helpful information about the basics of English Pointer training.

Specific behaviors that can be taught

Typically, housetraining will be the top training priority for people who own house dogs. English Pointers love spending time with their families, so we hope your dog lives inside your home and gets plenty of human interaction. These dogs simply aren’t as happy if they’re separated from their owners and made to live outside.

Simple obedience training is another common goal among dog owners. For example, you might save your dog’s life by training him to “stay.” Visualize watching your dog run out into the street, and you’ll understand just how important teaching your English Pointer that one little command can be. In addition to safety considerations, however, teaching your dog basic obedience commands, including “come,” “sit,” “stay” and “down,” will facilitate a good relationship between you and your dog.

Training your dog to stop inappropriate behavior like excessive barking or chewing on your belongings (such as your furniture or socks) is another part of being able to live together successfully. No dog is born knowing which particular behaviors are acceptable to people and which are not, so it’s up to us as dog owners to teach our dogs what they’re not allowed to do.

Not every owner of an English Pointer wants to go hunting with their dog, but others do. And, although English Pointers are born with great hunting instincts, they still must be trained to serve as gun dogs. Once trained, they can be the perfect hunting companion and are great at finding upland game birds like quail.

Training Techniques

You can use several training methods with an English Pointer. As a general rule, dogs of this breed are not only smart, but eager to please their owners. Typically, they respond well to training and learn pretty quickly.

Crate training is a useful training technique for a couple of things. For example, using a dog crate can help speed the English Pointer housetraining process. And, a dog crate can be invaluable if your Pointer is prone to dog separation anxiety. A crate can provide a safe, comfortable place for your dog to stay during your absence, but it also can prevent an anxious dog from damaging your belongings while you’re away.

Clicker training is one of the gentlest, most effective and fun training techniques. It’s gentle because you only use positive reinforcement to train your dog. Unlike some other training techniques, scolding or other types of corrections are never used during clicker training. Clicker training is very effective and can be used to teach an English Pointer essentially any type of behavior. And, because it’s reward-based, clicker training sessions provide a fun, bonding experience for dogs and their owners.

A technique called “dog whispering” is another method you can use to train your English Pointer. Although it’s less of a specific training technique and more a philosophy about human-dog interactions, dog whispering trains your dog by using his natural instincts after you establish your position as his pack leader. It, too, avoids using corrections and utilizes the power of positive reinforcement to teach dogs various commands.

Dog whistles (also called “silent” whistles or ultrasonic whistles) can be heard by dogs from great distances, so they make a great training tool when teaching a dog like an English Pointer to hunt. Whistle training can be a little difficult to master at first, but with some practice it can be a valuable supplement to other training methods.

Your English Pointer can also be trained to perform various obedience commands, tricks and so on with “traditional” training methods that use positive reinforcement. People often use treats or small pieces of food when training their dogs, but toys and physical affection can also be effective rewards.

Does Bark Off Work – My Evaluation

People with a barking dog are asking the question, does bark off work? After reading the reviews I am convinced the conclusions are mixed. But I was also looking for a way to evaluate the problem and the product. If you are interested in the key ingredient to make the product work for you, read on.

My dog was an adoption and began to bark at many things that were not necessary. So I began looking for an option that was economical. Bark Off seemed to be a reasonable price, but after reading many reviews I realized many people were not satisfied with the product.

I found the product to do what it said, my dogs’ concentration was broken and I was able to step in and work on her behavior. However this only worked after I began to address her need of exercise. Each day I take her for a brisk walk which helps expend her energy. That did the trick and the Bark Off product did the rest. If you are willing to take some time to address the underlying problems that can cause the barking, I can give you a positive recommendation for this product.

The Easiest Techniques In Potty Training Your Puppy

A lot of pet owners often wonder whether they could actually train their new puppy. They also speculate on how long this training should last and at what age the puppy needs to be trained.

Accord to Uncle Matty the most ideal time for applying the puppy potty training techniques that you will learn is when the puppy is ready to leave its mother. In essence, this is the time when the puppy is supposed to be introduced to his new family – your family.

Remember that a puppy that started out untrained or with bad habits will have more difficulty in being trained by its new owner. It is hard for it to unlearn all the things that it got used to. And if this puppy hasn’t been trained to go where and when he’s supposed to go, then you are guaranteed to spend months in re-training the new pup.

As a new puppy owner, you should begin with a goal in mind and that is to spend quality time with your pet as you try to teach discipline and some tricks. Keep in mind that it takes a lot of patience and persistence on your part in order to achieve your goal.

To start with puppy potty training, you should know about the signs that your pup is about to go! It’s been observed that puppies need to potty in about 15-20 minutes after they’ve eaten their meal. Some may take up to 45 minutes but your goal here is to see the signs that would tell you to take the pup out.

First, your puppy will become restless when he feels the need to poop. He will keep circling and sniffing the floor and he may also try to dig the floor which is the surest indication that he already needs to relieve himself. There’s a possibility that he will go to a previously soiled spot especially if you weren’t able to get rid of the smell of his previous potty.

As soon as you see these signs, it’s vital that you take your puppy outside of your home for his potty break. Choose a specific area in your yard which you would like him to do his potty training at. Make sure that this place isn’t near the area where your puppy also plays at. Never distract your pet as he tries to relieve himself and always reward him if he begins to learn the techniques that you’re teaching him. Aside from treats, you can also praise your pet as he slowly learns what you’re trying to teach him. Say “Good boy!” and pat him when he’s done doing this thing.

According to Uncle Matty dog training a major part of puppy potty training is to have a crate available. It’s essential to confine your puppy to a crate when you have to be away from him for long periods of time. You will have reduced problems of soiled floors if you keep your pet inside the crate while you’re gone. But remember that puppies shouldn’t be confined for hours at a time because they still have a hard time controlling their bladder. On your pet’s first two months with you, schedule to have him relieve himself every two hours until you are finally able to establish a schedule that works for both of you.

Dog Training And Starting Basics Obedience Training

Owning a dog is said to be one of the most rewarded experiences a person can have. The unconditional love a dog brings into ones life is an incredible experience. But what if man’s best friend is man’s biggest head ache?

Many dogs exhibit behavior problems and sometimes they can be very tough for the owners to fix. Does your dog bark excessively, jump, not come when called, beg, chew, show signs of aggression or just in general misbehave?

If you answered yes to any of those questions dog training is right for you.

But, many people ask, “Where do I begin and what instructors do I listen to?” And the answer is training your dog isn’t as hard as many people think. Check out our review of uncle matty and his dog training course.

Establishing a strong trustful bond with your dog is extremely important. I have yet to see a dog that isn’t interested in pleasing and loving their owners – many times they just do not understand what their owner expects from them.

That’s where we set rules, boundaries, and limitations with our pets. For instance, not jumping on the sofa, and only getting on the sofa when invited by the owner would be a good rule to set. Snuggling with our pet can be a very rewarding experience, but it’s important for the dog to know that you own the sofa, not the other way around. Plus, when company is over we can avoid any issues with the dog jumping into someones lap.

Many behavioral issues surface out of a dog not receiving enough daily exercise. It is recommended by many professionals that all dogs receive at least a 45 minute walk per day at least five days a week to give them proper physical exercise. If dogs are not exercised properly it can lead to a lot of pent up frustration and anxiety.

Also it is important for owners to know that play time does not equal exercise time. Many owners believe that throwing the ball around in the yard for 45 minutes equals exercise time for their dog. Although play time is very important, it should not be confused with exercise. Many times when dogs are chasing the ball, it places them in a very excited emotional state. That’s why walking is so important. Walking your dog conditions the dog to practice being calm and submissive, plus strengthens your bond with the animal. If you wish to play with your dog, we recommend a 30 minute walk, and then 15 or more minutes of ball chasing play time.

Basic obedience training should begin as soon as you bring your new puppy home. If you have waited longer, do not worry. Your dog is still very capable of learning basic obedience. We recommend teaching your dog clicker training. A clicker is a very simple tool that you hold in your hand and press when you deliver a reward to your dog. Every time the dog does something you want to reinforce, you click.

To begin clicker training it is required that you “load the clicker.” It’s important to condition your dog that the sound of the click means reward. To do this is a fairly simple task. Call your dog over, click the clicker, and give him a treat. Do this for about 15 minutes for a few days prior to beginning clicker training. A surefire way to tell that your dog is conditioned is to grab the clicker when the dog is unaware, and click it. If your dog perks his ears anticipating a treat or runs to you for the reward you know for a fact that the sound has been successfully conditioned with your dog.

Clicker training is important because verbal commands can be delivered too slow or too fast for the dog to be aware that is a reward. Dogs have a two second memory directly connected to the event. So if the dog does something you want him or her to do and you pause and say “really good boy!”, that verbal reward might not register with the dog that it was directly related to their behavior. Research shows that clicker training definitely helps train dogs faster.

For more great tips and to read more about my personal story of how I trained my two wonderful dogs, and uncle matty dog training reviews I got into detail of my own personal experiences researching a dog trainer.

Necessary Items For Looking After A Puppy

It’s a dog’s life, as they say, and there aren’t many places more often frequented by a dog than its bed, so if you’re planning on getting a new puppy you’ll need to make sure you invest in a good bed for him. Don’t forget that your puppy will soon grow, and the bed will need to be big enough to accommodate his growing frame. Make sure he has all the comfort he needs and don’t be tempted to buy a cheap bed – the dog won’t be happy!

When your dog isn’t sleeping, he’s likely to want to go for a walk. With that in mind, you’ll need to make sure you have a good quality collar and lead for him. The collar should have an identity tag which bears his name as well as your name, address and telephone number in case he runs off and gets lost. Leads are available in traditional and retractable forms, depending on the type of walk you intend to go on.

Cleanliness is next to godliness (or dogliness!) so you’ll need to make sure you take the proper hygiene precautions with your new puppy. In his younger days, he’ll need to use an indoor litter tray so make sure you explore your options in this respect. You’ll need to make sure you use bio degradable bags to clear up any unwanted gifts he decides to leave you and a couple of bottles of stain and odor remover wouldn’t go amiss!

One of the most rewarding parts of owning a dog is the ability to train it to be loving and obedient. Clicker training products tend to make excellent training aids and dog agility kits are available, too, should you want to go down that route. Toilet training kits will also be a great idea in the early days and should prove to be a worthwhile investment. You may also want to look at training prods or ultrasonic aids to train your dog with.

Of course, all dogs love to play and have fun. You’ll need to make sure you’re stocked up on toys for your new puppy, if only to stop him chewing the furniture! There are a number of rubber and plastic toys available from play rings, balls, frisbees and ropes to chewable objects and games for your dog to play. A dog’s mind needs to keep active, so make sure you play with him regularly and enjoy every minute that you have together with man’s best friend.
