Shih-Tzu DogsThe Shih-Tzu Breed of dog is the smallest, the oldest, and originates from Tibet. It is a cross between 3 different breeds (1)the Tibetan mountain dog, (2) the Lhasa Apso and (3) the Pekingese. Favoured by the Chinese nobility this breed has been named after most beautiful woman in China, Xi Shi, because of its cuteness. The two world wars has been responsible for Officers returning to the states after their tour of duty bringing this dog home with them. The Breed was registered by theAmerican Kennel Club (AKC) in 1969.

The dog has round, large, very black expressive eyes and large, heavily coated pendulous ears. Another characteristic of the Shih-Tzu is its square, short, well-cushioned muzzle. This breed of dogs have a broad, wide chest and are not barrel-chested. Shih Tzus have short, well-muscled legs with well padded, firm feet and heavily plumed tails.

The Shih-Tzu dogs are cute, playful, non-aggressive, intelligent and courageous. Bred as companion dogs, they crave their owners' attention. These dogs make excellent play mates. Most of the time they love to lie all cuddled up in their owners' laps. These happy, Shih-Tzu Dogfriendly dogs love kids and make excellent watch dogs. Moreover, these dogs do not have a habit of unabated barking. Shih-Tzus are sensitive and can be snappy if teased, they are obstinate but because of their quick learning ability they can be trained easily with little patience. They should never be overfed as they might develop obesity. A negative trait about the Shih-Tzu is that they often wheeze and snore.

The Shih-Tzu dog can often be found curled up in a corner and if owners are not careful lest they may hurt them accidentally. If the dog does not get enough attention periodically it is likely to suffer from stress related disorders These dogs are quite active indoors and with proper exercise, are suitable for apartments, and dwellings without a yard. The Shih-Tzu breed is sensitive to the sun and should never be taken on long walks in scorching heat. They are playful and enjoy the company of small children. Owners with children should be carefull that their kids do not consider the dog a toy and eventually harm it.

How to take care of the Shih-Tzu Puppies?

A Shih-Tzu Puppy Shih Tzu puppies should be fed at regular intervals and are never to be force fed as they eat only when hungry. Some food and watershould be left in front of their crates at night. Restricting their movements by baby gates or confining them to a secure spot with chewable toys is a must, to prevent accidents. Vaccination should be administered carefully to boost their immunity. Pups are fragile and owners should not play with them for more than 30 minutes at a stretch. Small children often confuse them with toys and might harm them unknowingly and thus, the pups should be kept under strict watch.
