Schnoodle Puppies Info

May 25th, 2010

Schoodle puppies, considered by some people to be hypoallergenic, is the result of breeding giant schnauzers and standard poodles. Based on how they are bred, the schoodle puppy may or may not be hypoallergenic. This is because of the fact that if two dogs that are different breeds are not of similar age or height, their offspring may not be hypoallergenic. The reason being, because the dog may take longer to mature; their hair may be a mix of different lengths and textures, or because their skin may shed more often than other breeds.

Even though the schoodle puppies are not considered hypoallergenic dogs by all people, you can judge for yourself by visiting a dog breeder to see if the dogs cause you to have an allergic reaction. Visiting a breeder is a great way to see which dogs are the right ones for you. While some hypoallergenic dogs will not necessarily cause an allergic reaction in some people, it might in others. The best way to tell if you will be able to have a dog in your home is to be around the dog before you take it home.

The Schoodle can vary in size and color. The dogs are considered intelligent and friendly. If you decide to visit a breeder, you should ask about the dogs that are bred together to see if they are using the right mix. While the Schoodle is considered to be a mongrel dog in some circles, in others it is considered a successful hybrid. Depending on which breeders you talk to, they may tell you that the Schoodle is safe from health risks that purebred dogs suffer from because of hybrid vigor. While this condition has’t been proven, many dog breeders claim that hybrid dogs will not suffer from the ailments that their parents will suffer from.

Since a schoodle can be an expensive dog to purchase, visiting a dog breeder is higly recommended. If you feel the kennels are not safe or clean or if you do not like the way the dogs are treated, then you should not buy a dog. Many dogs produced in ‘puppy mills’ are sickly and will not survive long. The demand for the Schoodle has risen in the past few years, so more ‘puppy mills’ have opened. Be certain that the breeder you buy the dog from is licensed.

Information on Hypoallergenic Dogs

May 25th, 2010

Dogs that are considered hypoallergenic may cause fewer allergic reactions in people who own them other breeds. There are many breeds of long hair, short hair, and hairless varieties to choose from depending on your particular allergies and what you are looking for in a dog. Hypoallergenic dogs are sold mostly by breeders, but you can also find them in pet stores and sometimes in animal shelters. If you decide to buy a hypoallergenic dog, there are ways to care for them that may require a little more work than non-hypoallergenic breeds.

Caring for your hypoallergenic dog begins with caring for their coat. While many hypoallergenic breeds such as Terriers, Schnauzers, and Poodles have short hair, this hair can be coarse and will continue to grow unless the dogs are properly groomed. These dogs do not shed and have hair that can be compared to human hair. You will have to keep your dog groomed in order to prevent matting. Matting can cause skin rashes and other health problems if the dog’s coat is not taken care of.

Brushing your dog is also important especially in breeds that have longer hair such as the Afghan Hound. While these dogs are considered hypoallergenic, their coats are long and shiny. They do not shed either, so brushing and grooming are important. Brush your dog at least twice a week to keep excess hair from building up.

Some hypoallergenic dogs have undercoats, while others do not. Undercoats protect dogs from cold temperatures by storing body heat. Dogs that do not have an undercoat will not survive long in cold temperatures. Unless a breeder says you can keep your dog outside, you should keep the dog indoors.

If you have a hairless dog, you will have to protect their skin with lotions and skin creams. You shouldn’t leave these kinds of dogs outside for long periods of time as they will suffer from dehydration and sun burn.

Caring for your dog is not only making sure their coat and skin are protected, it also includes making sure that they get enough exercise and time with you each day. Dogs that are left alone for long periods of time can become destructive. Training your dog by developing a routine will help them adjust to the times when you cannot be at home.
If you will be out of town for more than two or three days, you should find a friend that can check in on your dog or you should consider boarding the dog until you come home.

Protecting your hypoallergenic dog from cold temperatures, the sun, and from developing skin rashes are ways that you can help your dog live a long, healthy life. Because many breeds of hypoallergenic dogs are small in size, they are prone to arthritis, eyesight issues, tumors, and other problems. While you cannot predict how your dog will age, you should research different breeds to see what types of health issues they may have some day. Regular checkups with a vet will help your dog live a long life.

Dog Training: How To Have A Content Dog And A Happy Owner

July 26th, 2009

Is your dog driving you crazy with his bad behavior? Don t just put it with it. It s time to begin some basic puppy training for your dog. This means you should be consistent and persistent with your training. However, training should always be fun for your dog or it will quickly get bored!

Understand Your Dog Basic Needs

Having a dog is a responsibility. If you don t satisfy your dog’s basic needs, you shouldn’t be surprised if your dog’s behavior continues to stress you out. What are the basic needs? Here are the main ones:

  • food and water
  • regular exercise
  • company and social interaction
  • an environment which stimulates him.

The main principle in training your dog is to understand positive and negative reinforcement. When your dog does a behavior that is wanted, you should reward him with a treat or affection. It’s crucial that the reward comes immediately after the wanted behavior or the dog will not connect the two thing.

It s best to focus on positive reinforcement for wanted behaviors rather than negative reinforcement for bad behaviors. This has been found to be a more effective way of training.

Physical punishment is not productive or compassionate way to train dogs and will only lead to your dog being neurotic and fearful. That’s not going to be a good relationship between man and dog. You can say a firm No in a growling tone of voice to stop him behaving badly. Perhaps most effective is to ignore your dog when he does something you don t like. Dogs love attention and being ignored is negative reinforcement enough.

At all costs you should avoid humanizing your dog. It will help you to do this if you study dog communication and the dynamics of a dog pack. You read about what their body language means. They have various ways of communicating: with their tail, head position, ear position, mouth and teeth and vocally with various kinds of barks, growls and whines.

Another important aspect of training is to position yourself as the pack leader. If your dog is pack leader, you will be fighting a losing battle to get him to behave as you want. Why would he take notice of one of his pack member? Some pointers to set yourself up as pack leader:
-eat a a little snack in front of your dog as he waits for his food. The pack leader always eats first.
-don t allow him to onto the sofa or bed. The pack leader sleeps on higher ground.
-make sure you go through doors before your dog.

This is an introduction to some important points in obedience training for dogs. I recommend you look into the most systematic of training methods: clicker training.
